19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial title for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform positively, supported by an better serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

He defended four early-game opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
